Sustainability is not an add-on - it is how we operate. Our distributed model minimises environmental impact by design.
With 5,000+ remote linguists working from home, Talkbridge eliminates the daily commute for thousands of professionals. Our cloud-first infrastructure means no physical servers, no printed documents, and no unnecessary travel.
We measure our carbon footprint annually and set reduction targets that align with the Paris Agreement goals.

At Talkbridge, environmental responsibility is embedded in the fundamental architecture of our business. Unlike traditional translation agencies that rely on centralised offices, daily commutes, and paper-heavy workflows, we built our company from day one around a distributed, digital-first model that minimises environmental impact as a natural consequence of how we work — not as a corporate social responsibility initiative bolted on after the fact.
Our environmental policy is guided by three core commitments: eliminate unnecessary resource consumption wherever possible, measure and reduce the carbon footprint of our remaining operations, and transparently report our progress to clients and stakeholders. We believe the translation industry — which is inherently digital and knowledge-based — has an opportunity and an obligation to lead by example in sustainable business practices.
Every year, we publish an internal sustainability audit that tracks energy usage, travel emissions, digital infrastructure footprint, and waste generation across all 10 offices. The findings from this audit directly inform our annual environmental targets and investment decisions. We are not content with being “better than average” — our goal is to demonstrate that a global professional services company can operate at scale with a near-zero environmental footprint.
We have completely eliminated paper from every stage of our translation process. Source documents, translated deliverables, contracts, invoices, quality reports, and client communications are handled entirely through encrypted digital systems. Our cloud-based project management platform, TalkPortal, replaces the filing cabinets, printed proofs, and physical courier packages that still characterise many agencies. The result: zero paper waste across all operations since 2018.
When we select technology vendors, cloud hosting providers, and office suppliers, environmental credentials are a weighted evaluation criterion alongside price and performance. Our primary cloud infrastructure runs on data centres powered by renewable energy. Office supplies for our 10 locations are sourced from certified sustainable suppliers, and we have replaced single-use items with reusable alternatives across all facilities.
As Talkbridge expands into new markets and language pairs, every growth decision is evaluated against our environmental targets. New offices are established as compact, energy-efficient hubs rather than large corporate spaces. We prioritise hiring in regions where remote work infrastructure is strong, reducing the need for physical office attendance. Our growth model proves that scaling a global business and reducing environmental impact are not mutually exclusive goals.
Our remote-first approach is not just a workplace perk — it is a deliberate structural decision that eliminates entire categories of environmental cost.
With 95% of our 100+ staff and 5,000+ freelance translators working from home, we eliminate an estimated 1.2 million kilometres of daily commuting annually. Based on average vehicle emission rates, this equates to approximately 180 tonnes of CO2 that never enters the atmosphere — equivalent to planting over 8,000 trees each year. Our distributed model proves that the most effective way to reduce transport emissions is to eliminate the need for transport entirely.
Traditional translation agencies of our size would require approximately 3,000 square metres of heated, cooled, and lit office space. Our compact hub model uses fewer than 600 square metres across all 10 locations combined — an 80% reduction. Each hub is designed as a collaboration space for occasional team meetings and client visits, not as a full-time workplace. This dramatically reduces our energy consumption for heating, cooling, lighting, and office equipment.
